Description
Composition:
- Xylometazoline Hydrochloride IP: A decongestant that works by constricting blood vessels in the nasal passages, reducing swelling and congestion.
- Concentration for “Junior” Formulation: Specifically formulated for children (often 0.05% or as directed).
Uses:
- Nasal Congestion: Effective in providing quick relief from a blocked nose caused by:
- Colds
- Sinusitis
- Allergic Rhinitis (e.g., hay fever)
- Eustachian Tube Dysfunction: Sometimes used to reduce swelling in cases of ear pressure or infection.
How to Use:
- Dosage: Follow the recommended dosage for children, usually 1–2 drops in each nostril 2–3 times daily. Avoid exceeding prescribed frequency or duration.
- Application:
- Clean the child’s nose gently.
- Tilt the child’s head slightly backward.
- Insert the dropper just inside the nostril and administer the drops.
- Encourage the child to remain still for a few seconds.
- Duration: Should not be used for more than 5–7 consecutive days to avoid rebound congestion (rhinitis medicamentosa).
Precautions:
- Age Restriction: Use the “Junior” formulation only for children within the specified age range. Consult a pediatrician if unsure.
